Obituary of May Johnston
The death of Mrs. Gertrude "Gertie" May (Britt) Johnston, of Carleton Kirk Nursing Home, Saint John, wife of the late Reginald Johnston, occurred on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Winnifred S. (Walsh) Britt. "Gertie" was a member of Portland United Church, and was a past-member of the Ladies (Railroad Unit) of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Many years ago, she had been employed as a telephone operator. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Johnston of Grand Bay- Westfield, one sister, Regina (Jean) Hughes and her husband Merlyn of Saint John, a brother-in-law, Raymond Johnston, a special niece, Maureen Hughes, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and parents, brothers, J. Albert Britt, C. George (Sal) Britt, and J. Roy Britt, a sister, M. Doris, her daughter, Barbara Ann, and her son, S. Burton. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424, with visitation on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 1:00 PM from Brenan's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in the spring at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Multiple Sclerosis Society, or the Alzheimer's Society of Saint John Inc., would be appreciated by the family. www.brenansfh.com
