Obituary of Barb Daley
With sorrow, we announce the passing of Barbara Anne (McMackin) Daley, wife of the late John Daley, who passed away January 3rd, 2023 at Embassy Hall, Quispamsis, with family at her side.
She was born in Sussex on September 18th, 1939 and was a daughter of the late James and Loretta (McGlone) McMackin. Barb graduated from Sussex Composite High School in 1957 and from St Joseph's School of Nursing in 1960. She had a long career in Nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital working in Day Surgery. She retired in 1995.
She formally lived in Passekeag for almost 40 years in a home she and her husband built. Barb had a great sense of humour and she always enjoyed a good laugh and having fun. Barb was very involved in both High School and Nursing Reunions. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling and socializing.
Barb was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish in Hampton for many years and belonged to the Irish Cultural Society.
She enjoyed a special bond with her great-niece, Emily. She spent many hours chatting and visiting with her and her mother, Alanna.
Barb is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Michelle) of Saint John; her brother, Paul McMackin of Quispamsis; nephews, Michael (Lisa) MacKinnon and Paul MacKinnon of Dartmouth, NS; four great-nieces and several cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, John (2011); son, Jim (2009); daughter, Beth (2015); sister, Alice MacKinnon (1987) and brother-in-law, Fr. Tom Daley (1992).
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) where visitation will take place on Thursday, January 5th from 6-8 PM and Friday, January 6th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street, Saint John on Saturday, January 7th at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
