Kerri, Amanda Terrance and Dawson. I am so very sorry for your loss. He love each of you so much.
He wore his heart on his sleeve and his family always came first.
He was a huge part of my life. He took a piece of my heart with him. I'll always remember his biggest smile and never forget him. ♥️

With great sadness we ar posting our sincere condolences to Derek family . Our hearts are sadden for your great loss . We remember Derek growing up as a young lad in the community of Back Bay as he started school with our son .
Derek was a cousin of ours on the McLeese side . Derek sure loved the great outdoors from playing sports to fishing, hunting , etc . I remembered his mom being so proud of him when he joined the military. She use to called me almost every night , as we grown up best friends ( Anne) to talk about the kids , etc . Please know our thoughts & prayers are with you all at this difficult time . Love Gordon. (Jr) & Anne Cooke !

The McVicar Family -
I write to express to your family the sincere condolences of the Patricia’s on the passing of Derek McVicar. He was too young to be taken from you, but we are glad he had a large and supporting family, and that he enjoyed his dog Max's companionship, and his fishing and hunting.
The Regiment remembers Derek's service, and the family can be proud of that service. His name will be read in this year’s list of the lost when we read that out on November 11th, 2023 in the Sacred Space in Beechwood, the National Military Cemetery, Ottawa. His name will also be listed in the 2023 edition of the Patrician’s Last Post section, published in March 2024.
Thank you all.
Brigadier-General Vince Kennedy (Retired)
Past Colonel of the Regiment
Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry

My heart goes out to Derek's son, family and friends! Also his dog Max. He was an amazing man and I very thankful to have known him and to be able to say he was one of my best friends god ever gave to me. He always made sure I had a way to get my son and daughter on weekends. He often took time out of his day to even drive me to pick them up. If I ever needed anything from a helping hand to someone I could talk to that I knew would give me the best advice he could. I know that the end of his life became hard for him. He struggled with the passing of his mom and son almost daily but never told many people. He always could talk to me and I am also thankful for that. I wish I could have done more to save him. God knows I tried. Please is anyone has any questions or concerns I'm here. And will do my best to answer. If there is anything I can do to help. No matter how big or small please call upon me. Is there a way I could possibly be able to get a keep sake of Derek? I plan on coming to the being also the funeral. Fly high angel. Xox
