I am writing Beth’s family to let you know how very much my mother, Eileen Clarke, admired and loved volunteering with Beth. She spoke so highly of her and they became friends through their volunteer work at the Ridgewood Veterans Hospital. Later, they stayed in touch by phone at their similar advanced ages. Mom passed away last Dec but I know she would want me to extend our sympathy and her tribute to this dear lady.

Sending our condolences to Beth”s family , adopted family and many friends. What a sweet and caring person, nurse and church member. A life well lived in every way. Although we did not live in Saint John, we spent time with her whenever we were visiting our Grandmother , Mary Hagerman.

As part of the 4th generation of the Murray clan to be graced with Beth’s kindness and love, I’ve known Beth my whole life. She was caring, insightful, and delightful. In the days of our frequent large family gatherings, she was a calming presence and could always be found quietly helping in whatever way needed. She’s offered advice, encouragement, and newspaper clippings through the years and we were lucky to have known her.

When Beth took a job with VON Saint John, she needed a place to stay. Our Grandmother, who lived upstairs from the Murray clan, and took in boarders, was recommended and Beth moved in. She was a quiet, reserved, private person, but some of that changed fairly quickly with the noisy family of 5 kids ,eventually to be six, living downstairs. She embraced the Murrays with her whole heart and we did the same with her. She followed us through school, further education and jobs, marriages and children. Beth had a relationship with 5 generations of our family. There was no occasion in our lives where Beth didn't play an important part . When my parents sold the house and moved to the Belleisle, Beth found a new home on the west side with the Whittaker family. They also took very good care of Beth and she lived quite happily there until she was placed in care at Seastreet Manor. She survived car accidents, open heart surgery, a broken neck. No wonder some of us thought she might be around forever. She always referenced her arrival in Saint John with my brother 'James's' age. She loved him dearly and when she needed someone to be her POA, someone she truly trusted, she asked Jim. He was there for her every step of the way, no matter what.No ask was too great. She had a great sense of humor and loved to spar with Eric. As quiet as she was, she had a giggle that could fill a room. Dear sweet Beth.....we will miss you,but stories of you will still come up at family gatherings!

You know when your teacher in high school asks you to write about someone important, someone who’s a remodel to you. Well Beth was that person to me. Kind, caring and always showing up. She was also like an adopted grandmother to my sister, (Mandy) and I, (Sheena).
We gave my first born son, (Allister) her surname name (MacKenzie) as his middle name. Beth called him “My little Mac”. She was more to us, Belyea’s, than a sitter she is family and we will cherish the memories we have of her.
