Obituary of Vernon "Pudgie" McCarty
It is with great sadness that the family of Vernon “Pudgie” Raymond McCarty announces his passing which occurred on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on August 11, 1949, he was a son of the late Harold and Katherine (Peters) McCarty.
Pudgie worked as a short order cook on The Princess of Acadia and served with the 1RNBR. He then went on to work for the Coast Guard before moving onto construction.
Pudgie leaves behind his beloved wife, Diana (Doucette); children, Monique (Anthony), Victor, Vernon (Krystle); stepchildren, Dale (Crystal), Sabrina (TJ); grandchildren, Sarah, Amber, Eben,Tyson,Kaden, Jade, Aeneas, Eliza, Julian, Jessica; great-grandchildren, Tyarah, Koale, Lelle, Cedar, Ulanda; brother, Edward (Belinda); sisters, Katherine “Rosebud” (David), Ella Louise (Wayne); as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Pudgie was predeceased by his siblings, Clarence, Victor, John, Malcolm, Harold, Elaine and Mary “Easter”.
The family would like to extend a special heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of 4AN at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424). A Funeral Service will be held from The Brenan’s Chapel on Thursday, February 23, 2023, beginning at 6:00 PM. Donations in memory of Pudgie may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to The Diabetes Association of New Brunswick.
