Isabel had a full life with a large and adoring family which she loved dearly. Her family and friends were her joy in life. Isabel and her late husband Glenn had so much love and kindness to give to this world; so much so that if any were in need, they would offer help on a dime. Even when people weren’t family, she opened her heart to them and helped them with no questions asked. If you needed help, she made it happen. She was always a dependable friend, and most would go as far as to call her their second mom.
She worked hard all her life, working in the Credit Department for Irving Oil for almost 40 years. Her stats were perfect, and she would work overtime to make sure things got done and got done right. When she turned 65 and decided it was finally time for a retirement party Mr. Irving asked her “why are you leaving us at Irving so soon?” as Isabel was such an outstanding employee. She got her work done, her boss Dick knew how good she was at her job and Mr. Irving always had a chat when she would meet him at the yearly picnic or in a store.
Even though Isabel had a busy schedule, each year starting in October she would come home from work and immediately start working on arrangements to sell at the Rhoda’s Christmas Craft Show. For over 30 years she made 100 plus arrangements each year and sold them at Rhoda’s. No two arrangements were alike; each one had its own unique design. People would come around to see what wonders she had come up with each year – six long tables full of them – They were loved by all and were even sold to people from Hawaii and Florida. She always said when they came to the booth then left that they will always be back, in hopes that it is still there. If they really want it, then a smile would light up their face. Surprisingly, by the end of the second day most were gone and sometimes she would have to come home at six and go make a few more for the next day.
Isabel sang in Main Street Church (Rivercross) choir for over 50 years. She had the voice of an Angel. On our drives she would say as we sang to hymns “I must know a million of them” and she truly did. Her church was her second home, she was a part of it for most of her life and she always enjoyed taking part in choir, senior dinners, decorating, etc. She had so many happy times at Rivercross over the years. Pastor Joe came several times to the home (Dobbelsteyn Care Home) where she resided, they had great chats and maybe even a few laughs. She always told us how much she loved her church, pastor Rob, Joe, and Steve and if something needed done like decorating, she was there for them.
Family, Church, and friends were her Joys of life. Those who know her were so blessed. She was a very special lady that had a heart of gold and now golden wings. She always said don’t cry when I’m gone but rejoice knowing I am home with my heavenly father, I had a good life and now I am at peace with my family in heaven. Be not sad but celebrate the many years we had together and know that I am happy and alright.
