Obituary of Helen Pearl Brooks

It is with an appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Helen Pearl Brooks, beloved wife of the late Cecil “Pat” Brooks, announce her passing, which occurred on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, at the Ridgewood Veterans Facility. Born on August 5th, 1921, in Ford Mills, NB, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Jane (Brown) Symes. Helen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Helen was a veteran of World War Two, serving in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. Helen was a devoted parent and treasured the times spent with her family. Helen was an avid genealogist and spent hundreds of hours researching the family trees of the Syme’s and Brooks’ families, as well as other families that she encountered. Helen was an avid quilter and ensured that each of the children in her extended family received a handmade quilt.
Helen will be lovingly remembered by her children Cecilia Doiron, Joan Brooks (William Beatty), Sylvia Brooks, Rowan Brooks (Debbie Lawrence), Aaron Brooks (Geraldine Glazier); 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son-in-law Jean Marie Doiron, and grandchildren Curtis and Cheryl Doiron
The family would like to thank the staff of the Ridgewood Veterans Facility for their care, and the consideration shown to Helen throughout the past year.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home (506-634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, where visitation will take place on Thursday, May 25th, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, and again on Friday afternoon from 12pm until the time of the Celebration of Life at 1pm. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed via the Funeral Home website. Interment to follow in Oceanview Memorial Gardens, after which at reception will be held at Brenan’s.
