Beloved daughter of my first violin teacher Jessie Ward Barker, who launched the careers of many of SJ's most accomplished violinists and string players, including my own. It should be noted that Carolyn ... following in her mother's musical footsteps? ... studied voice in New York during an era when very few New Brunswick women had the resources or the gumption to do so. Like her Mom, she was obviously a "groundbreaker," not to say fearless (her resemblance to her Mom was striking!). As a young violinist arriving for lessons at her Mother's house (now called SJ's "Mahogany Mansion,") it was always an added and memorable pleasure to encounter her. Rest in Peace Carolyn ... I'll bet your Mom has been waiting to receive you!
