Jean Bartlett

Obituary of Jean Margaret Bartlett

Jean Bartlett, devoted wife of the late William (Bill) Bartlett, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at her residence following a period of failing health.

Jean is survived by her daughters, Jill Sinclair (the late Greg Sinclair) of Rothesay, Dee Dee Bartlett (Brian Fieber) of Jasper, AB and Nancy Bartlett of Rothesay.  Jean was a cherished Granny to Bill Matthews and his children Taylor and Mila of Edmonton,  Caroline Price (Justin) and their daughter Kate of Quispamsis, James Sinclair (Amy) and their children Will and Eva of Quispamsis and Doug Matthews (Alex Bischoff) of Vancouver.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Fran Bartlett, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Born in Nantel, Quebec, to Albert and Hazel (Logan) Ogilvie, Jean was the last surviving member of six siblings, Doug (Kay), Bernie (John), Bobbie (Don), Jack (Joan) and Sonny (Audrey).

The centerpiece of Jean’s life was her family and her incredible commitment to them was an example for all.  Throughout her years of marriage, Jean’s primary focus was supporting her husband and girls.  She will be lovingly remembered for her strong will and choosing to live life on her own terms, yet with a loving and generous spirit, a sense of humour, and many warm acts of kindness.

Jean was very active in the New Brunswick golf community, serving as president of the New Brunswick Ladies Golf Association and the Riverside Ladies Association. She was honoured to represent New Brunswick on the ladies’ golf team four times at the national level.  Jean was a club champion at Riverside and her home course in Lachute, Quebec.  She was proud to say she possessed both a hole in one in golf and an eight ender in curling.  A lover of all puzzles especially crossword and jigsaw; Jean will be fondly remembered for her hand knit colourful woolen socks, sandwich day at the pool, hosting many memorable friend gatherings and entertaining business associates from out of town.

Jean’s girls send heartfelt thanks to her care team from Homecare by Design, a care team unlike no other.  It would not have been possible for Jean to remain in her home without their support and exemplary care.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).  To honour Jean’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.  A private family gathering will take place at a later date.
