So sad to read that Val had passed. I grew up next door
To her family in Rockwood in Halifax. It was a cool place
Grow up. Valerie was one of the big kids with my sister Aileen
I remember her taking the top medals in relion at the sacred hear convent.
Aileen,me Kate and Val went to school together there
My brother Paul and val took ballroom dancing classes together
She was a lovely big kid growing up. I saw her last at the Rockwood reunion
1990.

My deepest sympathy and thoughts are with you with Val’s passing. Such fond memories in the mid 78’s and our involvement with the Truro Play School which our children attended. Then fast forward to Saint John and our path crossing to rekindle after so many years. May all your cherished memories be of comfort.

George,
While I have not seen you or Val for over half a century, I do remember our friendship and was deeply saddened to learn of your recent loss. Indeed, even 60 years later I recall Valerie’s smile, her laughter, and her overall joie de vivre during our college days - a rare individual whose presence enriched our lives immeasurably.
My thoughts are with you and I trust the outpouring of love you are now receiving will sustain you as you reflect on the blessings you enjoyed with such an amazing partner.

Dear George, Kate and Peter,
I was deeply saddened to receive the unexpected news of Val's death in an email from Chris Donahoe, longtime friend since we all grew up in Rockwood together.
I'll never forget the Bowditch/Cannell connection: our fathers so handsome in their naval uniforms, our parents happy friendship and socializing, not to mention a few memorable outings and boating misadventures that resulted in several amusing stories. I recall Val, even when young, taking all antics in stride with a combination of unsparing disapproval and humour.
I will continue to remember and miss Val for her intelligence, wit and many accomplishments, as well as for the hospitality that Val and George offered to me and so many others, both at Minote and in their home.
My deepest condolences to Val's family.
Sincerely,
Lois Thompson

No words can be expressed to say how sad we are at Val’s passing. WE always knew we could count on you both for a friendly neighbourly wave, a helpful hand and of course our “long conversations “when Anne would come over to just say hello, to chat or drop off the house key. We were always impressed and loved Valerie’s quick wit, vast knowledge and strong sense of justice and we are going to sorely miss her in the days to come. May your love for each other that was always evident, sustain you George during this grieving time, and always know we are here across street if you need a friendly shoulder/ hand/ or just to talk.
With affection,
Anne and Larry Timms

Dear George,Simon and Sarah
We are sorry to hear of the passing of of Val. It has been many years since we were neighbours on Fundy Drive in Truro, Nova Scotia. I fondly remember Val as a clever, friendly and out-going lady known for her parties where she was the star for her piano playing ability. I learned to love artichoke dip at one of her parties. Enjoying that dip brings back many happy memories of long ago on Fundy Drive.
We also remember Sugarloaf the year you had an accident on the slopes,Sarah. Jeff was so upset that the older woman on whom he had a major crush was hurt…he was six and I think you were ten.
We wish you loving memories to warm your hearts today and always.
Judy, Mark, Jeff and Suzanne Rondeau
