Obituary of Marilyn Jean King
Lyn had a special gift – she could make people laugh like no one else. Her life was full of funny stories and moments that made everyone around her smile.
But her sense of humour was just one part of what made her amazing. Lyn was a dedicated volunteer and community woman. She was a treasurer and member of Housing Alternatives - on and off for 20 years. She volunteered for Poverty Works, taking a strong interest in those in poverty, as well as women who had faced domestic violence, in gaining a fresh start. She also studied early childhood education and loved children.
In her free time, she loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and never missed an episode of All My Children. Her favourite music to listen to was anything by The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac or Queen. Among many other hobbies and activities, she was independent and enjoyed a drink at Tim Hortons and going to the movie theatre for a show.
Lyn was predeceased by her mother Jean Bellinger, her brother Douglas Bates, her aunt Catherine Kornobis, and her best friend and fur baby Tiger the orange tabby cat.
As a loving companion, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her companion of 42 years Robert Taylor, and her two sons Sean (Mandi) King and Jason (Cindy) King. She held a distinct and special place in her heart for her granddaughter, Erin King, who was more like a daughter to her. In addition to Erin, she is also survived by grandchildren Stephanie McLaughlin, Danielle, Hannah, and Evan King.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or SPCA in Lyn’s honour, spreading the happiness she brought to others.
Lyn may have left us, but her laughter and love will always stay with us, reminding us that even in tough times, a good laugh can make things better.
Goodbye Nani. We'll miss you, but your love will be in our hearts forever.
