I only learned of Lauchie's death when my UNB Alumni magazine arrived today. We had had an ongoing email conversation for some years, and I had not heard from him in a year or so. He was my teacher when I attended Prince Charles Intermediate School in Saint John, and we came into contact again after he read an article on the school which I had written for The Reader, a publication of the Evening Times- Globe. Lauchie shared many reminiscences of our student-teacher days, and also shared historical information involving both the school, and the students there, which I very much appreciated. He was genuinely interested in young people and their education, and their future successes, and I really did enjoy reconnecting with him, so very many years after he was my teacher.
My most sincere condolences to his family, Dina E Cox.

Sherry, I am so sorry for your loss. You took so many of us off guard when you and Lachlan were married, such fun, I did not know your partner, only by his exceptional reputation as an educator, but he was surely worth of your love and commitment. We are on PEI now, PJ is still close to SJ,, every time we drive through that lane to your cottage, I wonder if you are still there. So I think of you often as the wonderful gift you were to our son in grade 3 and 4.

Dear Sherry:
Sending my sincere condolence to you in the loss of Lauchie. Dick always treasured his chats with Lauchie and was so happy that you made it for his 80th Birthday. I have missed him since his jokes dried up. I still have a few of them saved in my “Joke File”. I expect that he, Dick, Ken, Don and a few others are up above discussing their memories of growing up in Chipman. May he Rest in Peace..
God Bless,

Sherry, so sorry to hear of Lauchie’s passing. I started teaching in 1979 at Prince Charles where Lauchie was the well respected vice-principal. On my first day of recess duty, one of the junior high students decided to grab my bell (I had put it down to have a catch with a few of the students) and when I noticed the bell was missing I saw that there were a few boys with their hands behind their back and some smirks on their faces. I was in a jam so I had to think quickly. I told the kids that if I didn’t get the bell back I would have to go into the school to tell Mr.Fulton and being a new teacher I would be in big trouble. Respecting the reference to Mr.Fulton, one of the boys brought his hands from behind his back and passed me the bell. Although Lauchie didn’t know it at the time, he had saved me from a great deal of embarrassment. Leo,Summer,Lyla Coyle

Sherry I am so sad to read od Lauchies passing, I will always smile when I think of him, he always referred to himself as my Number 1 customer and I learned more hockey trivia and enjoyed more old hockey photos with him that I still can't imagine what he ever did with them all. When I left Staples I missed his stories and all his pictures and my Number 1customer
My deepest sympathy to you and Karen

I first met Lauchie at Prince Charles School where I was also a teacher. We became good friends and I enjoyed his dry humour. After school we used to go to the Carlton York Club to play shuffleboard and enjoy a few? Beers.
My condolences to Sherry and Karen and the rest of the family.

Karen and Sherry, we are in Nova Scotia this week helping my mother who fractured her shoulder in a fall. We regret that we cannot be with you at this sad time. We have wonderful memories of Lauchie who was truly one of a kind and from whom we learned so much. We admired his passion for history, his love of sports, his enjoyment of lobster, and his terrific sense of humour when telling stories. May God comfort you in the coming days. Please know that many people share your grief. Ann Deveau and Doug Milander

So sorry to hear of Lauchie's passing. He was VP of Prince Charles School when I was both a student there, and later a teacher.
As a student I remember our history class. Once a week for grade 7-9, he brought in a radio and the CBC would broadcast a history lesson on a Canadian event. We listened to it, took notes, and wrote a summary to be turned in the next day. Lauchie would leave the classroom, and not a sound was made. He was a strict disciplinarian, but with a sense of humour.
Also, every year on my birthday, he called to wish me "happy birthday,". How did he remember? His daughter and I shared the same birthday.
RIP Lauchie.
