To the Berry family,
I met Mac over twenty years ago at chaplain seminars in Halifax and Cornwall, ON. He was engaging, thoughtful, authentic and those who knew him well would add other virtues. Although Mac had his opinions, one could feel that you had his attention also.
When I retired from the Chaplaincy in 2007 I lost contact with him, but memory served me immediately when I read the name and writeup.
To those of you who knew and served with Malcolm, and to his family, I offer heartfelt sympathy, and honour a life well lived.
May God guard and guide all,
RIP and may light perpetual shine brightly.
Yours most sincerely,
Reed

I met Malcolm during my short time with 37 CBG, during ARCON '05. I was a photojournalist tasked with taking his photo and he asked what he should do. I told him to just do what he would normally be doing so he was setting up for communion in the field.

Love and prayers to Holly and the family. I was heart broken to hear of our brother Father Mac’s passing. We shared a love of the scriptures and the blues harmonica. I played “Amazing Grace“ on the Blues Harp in his memory the moment I heard. He has been my friend and brother since the 1960’s. We were the guys you didn’t want at your party who later became the guys you really needed at your prayer group. He was a fount of wisdom, affirmation, and spiritual comfort for me all along the way. I shall greatly miss all the fun we had, the fellowship, and chats about blues music. Friend, musician and priest. Love you my brother.

To Holly and Family,
Mac was our Task Force Senior Chaplain when four of us deployed to Afghanistan in Feb 2007. We have worked together, training in Gagetown, in volatile conditions in Wainwright, in adverse situations in Petawawa and in traumatic environments at Sunnyside Trauma Hospital in Toronto prior to our Tour. Father Mac is very pastoral with wits and a funny sense of humour. Jovial, contemplative, easy-going and apt to lend a hand whenever needed, Mac has demonstrated a pastoral heart to all who knew him regardless or rank or demographics. This effable man has a lot to reminisce about in our conversation with regards to his family, his upbringing and his youthful; exuberance on the streets of Toronto with capacity to bounce back in the face of adversity.
I will always miss this down-to-earth-priest who loved life and helped others. He left his mark and made his world a better place than he has found it. RIP Father Mac.
Please accept my deep condolences as you wrestle with your loss; Mac is irreplaceable.

Dear Holly, I was sorry to read that Mac has passed away. When I think of him I remember his great smile, love for his Lord and for you and your family. He lived his faith in the Lord. Our paths crossed a few times when we lived in Saint John and my husband, Jerry, was pastor at Tabernacle Bapt. and then again when we lived in Sussex. Praying for you and your family and know that God will carry you each step of the road ahead. God promised and He keeps His promises.

Thank you so much Holly, and the family, for your beautifully written outline of Macs life, not an easy thing to do given the breadth of his experience. As I was saying to a number of his old Yorkville friends who are in mourning, Mac seems more present to me now than ever... only in a new, refreshing, and restoring way. That is his legacy to me, A legacy of love! Thank you Mac for touching all our lives with caring, and love. Rest in peace old friend.

Dear Holly and member’s of Malcom’s family,
I have been a friend of Malcom’s since 1984. I rejoice in the life he lived as a genuine human being and a devout follower of Jesus Christ. May he rest and be filled with joy in the company of our Lord Jesus. I thank God for the ministry he offered the women and men of the CAF. His ministry in Afghanistan was exceptional. The suffering he witnessed and experienced was also great. Our Lord said, Mark 8:34 (NRSV): If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. I am proud of Mac for taking up his cross and following Jesus.

Brother, you sent me these words and I reflect on them often, thank you, from all you have befriended, we are grateful!!
Hey Bro, I thought of you when I read this! Mark Linton wrote: A real man is the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says Oh Crap, he's up! Brother, life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat u right. Forgive the ones who don't just because you can. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it. Take a few minutes to think before u act when you're mad . Forgive quickly. God never said life would be easy . He just promised it would be worth it.

Holly and family,
Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of Malcolm. He was a faithful servant to all he met. A man of integrity with a pleasant disposition. It was a pleasure knowing him. Our last time together was in September, when we walked along the lake, together. He expressed the joy in seeing the natural beauty around him. Even with his own health challenges, he asked us to keep one of his best friend and partner in prayer. Such love and compassion for others. Now his purpose here on earth is complete. Well done, good and faithful servant. Take your rest in the arms of your creator.
