My condolences on the passing of Winnie. As a young boy I worked at Dominion Stores, she was always very kind and we shared many laughs. She often would take me by the arm while I was sweeping up just before closing and lead me down the candy isle, where she would find a bag of "opened" candy to share... She was wonderful and so liked by many customers and her fellow employee's. May you take comfort knowing we share in your loss and strength from our prayers.
Sincerely, Paul Smith

It was a delight to meet Winnie at the Villa and how she and my Mother, Nora became such great friends. If my Mom wasn't in her room, I knew I would find her in Winnie's room, laughing and chatting with each other. Many a times I would visit and share in the laughter with them. Winnie was a blessing and my Mom misses her terribly.

Winnie was a second mother to us, McKiel Children.. She was either at our house or we were at her house when I was growing up. I love the Kraft Dinner for lunch , as Mom would was not a Kraft Dinner Fan; so when I was looking for a treat off I would go and have my fix of KD at her place.
She made the best birthday cakes, where Winnie would wrap, pennies, nickels and dimes in wax paper and put them in the batter . We were so excited if we found a coin in our piece of cake.. The person who got the dime, was the winner..
She always made my brother Doug a gum drop cake for his birthday.
The best cake story was the day of my wedding. Jim Finigan went over to Dominion Store to get the cake and take it to the reception. He arrived at Mom's place very upset saying they could not find the order for the 3 tier cake.. Mom dug out the receipt and called Winnie ( who worked there at the time) " What are we going to do, the wedding is in 2 hours.. Never to be defeated Winnie went to Dominion Stores, grab frozen tiers of cakes and her and the cake decorator performed magic and got the cake to the Admiral Beatty on Time. When Jim and I arrived the photographer said, we have to take pictures of you with the cake now, before the reception... The cake is melting and the tiers are sliding off the icing... We got the pictures before the cake fell..
It was the laugh of the reception.
Winnie was the spark of any get together and could have everyone laughing in a manner of minutes.
Rest in peace
Love Mary Sue Gatien

You gather a lot of fond memories over 32 years and certainly too many to ever write them all down here but I remember how you and Ron Sr welcomed myself and my two children Matthew and Shauna into your home and family with open arms and hearts and from that very first day we were family. Christmas time brings memories of the many Christmas Day nights that we would all gather at your home and I remember one Christmas in particular watching you dancing & singing in the living room to Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer!! You were always so full of fun!! I remember how you always had a special request for my pineapple squares at Christmas time and it was a request that I always filled with love!! There were so many years that we would all ring in the New Year together either at somebody's home and sometimes at the bowling alley. Winnie.... you and I spent a good many hours sitting and chatting on your deck while the boys in the family would be off golfing and you and I would catch up on the events of the week and what all the kids and grandkids were up to and I remember that you almost always had a pair of knitting needles in your hand working on the next Christmas gifts. I will always remember all the potluck suppers that we used to have on your deck and I can see you yet sitting at the table in your trailer filling lemon tarts which were the best! And to this day I can hear you whistling when you wanted one of the kids attention and how everybody would look when they heard that whistle!! And of course during the summer Wednesday nights were always reserved as Bingo nights and we would all pile into your van and go. So many memories spent together camping for over 20 years!! A lifetime of memories in happy and sad times too of you & Ron as my mother and father in law....memories that I will always carry with me. As much as I know your family will miss you ...I know Ron was waiting for you with open arms and I know how much you missed him......you've earned your rest Winnie.....forever loved & missed...
