Obituary of Nita Claire Driscoll
It is with sadness and celebration of a life well lived, the family of Nita Claire Driscoll (nee MacMurray), announces her sudden death, which occurred on April 21, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, NB on Feb 23, 1945, Nita grew up in East Riverside and has lived in Quispamsis, NB since 1965. Nita was the only child of the late Stewart G. and Dorothy L. (Thomson) MacMurray.
Nita is survived by her devoted husband, Murray, daughter Claire Driscoll (John Crawford), son Steven (Lise) Driscoll and two grandchildren, Jay and Ava who brought such great joy to her life and of whom she was so immensely proud.
Being a homemaker most of her life she was able to lend her talents to many organizations over the years. Her most treasured moments were spent volunteering at St. John and St. Stephen Church Home and latterly at Kings Way Care Centre. Being an only child and spending a lot of time with her parent’s generation gave her a great affinity for that age group. She volunteered to the end of her life and received the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for her efforts. She participated in and latterly led the Grace Presbyterian Church’s Ladies Soup Group who provided Soup for Romero House. The last batch of soup she helped create was on April 16, 2024.
Singing in a choir, both church and community, brought pleasure to her life. She met the love of her life, Murray, while a choir member at St. David’s United Church. No two people have ever been more in love. They cherished every minute of their 58 year marriage. She was a member of every choir both he and Claire directed. Nita was also an avid gardener, taking great pleasure in her beautiful flower gardens and, mostly, protecting them from the deer! In fact, the day before her death she was prepping the yard for her 2024 gardens.
A foot issue hampered her activities in the last year but before that she was an avid walker, cyclist and skater. She was thrilled to be able to join her skating buddies just two weeks before her death. She said that when she was on her skates she was at peace. She is at peace now.
Her intense love for others has left a profound impact on family and friends that will long be remembered.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). A Funeral Service will be held from Grace Presbyterian Church (101 Coburg Street) on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place an hour prior beginning at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow in the church gymnasium. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nita’s beloved Grace Presbyterian Church or Romero House, a charity she supported throughout her life.
