Obituary of Marion Agnes Makepeace

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marion Agnes Makepeace announces her peaceful passing at Orchard View Long Term Care Home in Gagetown, NB on Tuesday May 7, 2024.  Wife of the late William Douglas Allen of Lower Greenwich, she was born on October 10th, 1940 in Olinville, NB: she was the daughter of the late William and Sadie (McCutcheon) Donald.

Marion is survived by sons, Scott (Jacqueline), Shaun (Rhonda), and Brent (Melissa Marr): step-daughters Cheryl Hansen (Andrew) and Pauline Mackie (Ewen): 6 grandchildren, David Makepeace, Sarah Makepeace, Ryan Makepeace, Katelyn Makepeace, Keegan Hansen, and Brayden Hansen, siblings John Donald of Browns Flat, NB, sister in law Mary Donald of Browns Flat: as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marion was predeceased by 5 sisters, Elsie Johnson, Phyllis Copp, Jean Beckett, all of Browns Flat, NB, Alberta Lourie and Blanche McGowan of Grand Bay – Westfield, NB and one brother Charles Donald of Browns Flat, NB.

Marion spent the early part of her life working in Saint John and then focusing all her time on raising her boys at Browns Flat. Later in life she reentered the work force, working at Saint John West Side Coop for several years and then at various call centers in the city. She was also a long-time member of the Wesleyan United Church in Browns Flat.

Marion enjoyed her family immensely, especially grand kids, and was always welcoming to any friends of family who came along (particularly for Sunday night suppers). She had special relationships with many of her siblings, nieces, and nephews and provided the glue that connected extended families.  She enjoyed apple picking, being outdoors in nature, cooking and providing for others. She rarely followed a recipe and learned from the best. Even though she had various critical health conditions along the way through life, she did not let them get in her way or impact her love of life.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Orchard View Long-term Care Home in Gagetown.

Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home (111 Paradise Row, Saint john, NB). A burial service will be held at the Wesley United Cemetery, Brown Flat, NB, on Saturday May 11 at 2pm. For those who wish to, remembrances in memory of Marion can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
