Obituary of Hazel Louise Sprague
It is with great sadness that the family of Hazel Louise (Murray) Sprague announce her passing which occurred on Thursday May 9th, 2024. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. Hazel was born on March 19th,1930 in Little Shemogue, NB to the late Claude and Mabel (Simpson) Murray.
Hazel started her career by going to Teacher’s College and taught for a brief period before moving back home to help on the family farm. Later, she worked for NBTel in Port Elgin as a switchboard operator until she transferred to the Saint John location – working there for years. Afterwards, Hazel worked for the CN Marine Ferry Service in Saint John before moving on to doing homecare for seniors.
She enjoyed cooking, knitting/crocheting, reading and travelling. Hazel loved getting photos of the family to put on display.
Hazel is survived by her brothers, Lyman, Lynn, Tom and sister, Peggy; sons, Allison, Arnold, Cedric and Trevor; grandchildren, Andrea, Cedric Jr., Erica, Phillip, Emily, Sarah, Mitchell, Morgan and Abby; several great-grandchildren; as well as her special friend, Regina Mantin and special nephews, Norman Cole and Gordon Smallwood. Hazel was predeceased by her infant son Neil in 1961, Father Claude in 1978, Former Husband Ernest in 1999, Mother Mabel in 2002, Sister Dorothy in 1961, Sister Pauline in 2016 and Brother John in 2022.
Special thanks to the staff at Parkland in Saint John for taking such good care of Hazel during her last years of life.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral service. Hazel will be laid to rest in the Murray Family Cemetery, Murray Road, Little Shemogue, NB in a special urn made by her brother Lyman. Date to be announced. Arrangments are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).
