Obituary of M. Shirley Wigginton
M. Shirley Wigginton, widow of Donald Wigginton, died on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born April 5, 1932, in McKenzie Corner, NB, she was the only child of R. Marshall and Mary R. (Thompson) Millar.
Shirley worked for the Provincial Department of Health after graduation from Woodstock High School and Carleton County Vocational School in 1950, moving to Saint John in 1965 when she married Don.
Shirley is survived by her nieces: Lynn, Andrea, Catherine, and Jane; her good friend, Valerie; and many friends in her Portland United Church community, of which she has been a member for a number of decades.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her cousin, Marie.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of 5CN for their care of Shirley in her final weeks, and to her caregivers from Kindred- Brenda, Amber, Ruth, and Frances, who supported her at home, for their friendship and kindness shown to Shirley.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, no visitation will be held. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at 1 pm from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
For those who wish, remembrances to Portland United Church Benevolent Fund, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
