Obituary of Helen Mae Douthwright
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Mae Douthwright announce her passing which occurred on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB on November 20, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Ersel and Frances (Robichaud) Hersey.
Helen was a woman of many passions and talents. She was renowned for her home cooking and delicious cakes, which brought joy to all who tried them. With a sewing machine always at the ready, she stitched together countless baby quilts, selflessly giving them away to bring comfort to little ones. Her kindness and care for others also shone through in her work as an interpreter for the deaf, her dedication to volunteering and working with geriatrics, and being a home care support worker. Helen was a faithful member of her church and the Women’s Missionary Society (WMS). Her love, cooking, and craftsmanship will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Helen is survived by her children, Peter (Cheryl) Douthwright, Sharon Douthwright, Mark Douthwright, Sheila (Donnie) Basque, Chrstina (Jayne) Douthwright; sister, Sue (George) Mesheau; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Don Hersey; sister, Joyce Wade; as well as her daughter-in-law, Margaret Douthwright.
The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to her grandson, Daniel, who was her main caretaker, and to all the nurses and staff of 4BN at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
