Obituary of Holly Eve Haines
At the age of 76, the death of Holly Eve Haines occurred Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, peacefully and with family by her side. Holly was born Dec 24th, 1947, to Reynold and Francis (Sprague) Haines. She grew up playing on and around Adelaide Street with family and friends. After graduation from Saint John High School, Holly went on to pursue her teaching career. Retirement from Centennial Elementary came earlier than anticipated when Holly was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. She faced that health crisis with the same ferocity she faced any challenges she encountered in life.
While Holly chose not to marry and have children of her own, she enjoyed a robust social life that included her close-knit family and many friends. She never missed an opportunity to travel and loved her winters in Florida with Don, the special someone she met later in life but always said was worth the wait.
Holly was an avid gardener, bird watcher and loved to bake. Early retirement gave her more time to spend doing the things she loved. She joined Communities in Bloom, PROBUS, became active in the retired teachers community and volunteered at Bobby's Hospice Shoppe and for The Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary.
Predeceased by her parents; her brother, William Haines; niece, Heather Black. She is survived by her sister, Faye; brother-in-law, Dave Black; sister-in-law, Winnie Haines; Seven nieces and nephews as well as several great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
