Obituary of Douglas Arthur Shippee (Major)
Douglas Arthur Shippee (Major) of Saint John, NB passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the Saint John Shannex in Cohen Hall.
Doug was born February 15, 1929, and is survived by his loving wife, Gail. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Mary Shippee, and sister Connie (Myles) Saunders.
Doug enjoyed life to the fullest, he loved socializing and travelling to Florida. He was an individual with extensive knowledge and experience in the New Brunswick business region, owned many businesses and was very active in the community for many years. Doug was past President of The Saint John Rotary Club, NB Insurance Brokers Association, Saint John Transit Commission, Finance and Human Resources for VIA Rail Canada, Horizon Health Network and the SPCA. He was the founder of the Sussex Balloon Festival and participated in the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Sussex, Presque Isle and many more. He was also a ski instructor and a NAUI Scuba Diver. He was also a Major in the Canadian Military.
I would like to say thank you for the wonderful care that the nurses and staff provided for Doug at Cohen Hall.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). In keeping with Doug’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue or the charity of the donor’s choice.
