Obituary of Grace Marie McLean
May 8, 1936 - September 23, 2024
In thanksgiving for a life well lived...
Grace Marie McLean, fashionista, foodie, gardener, traveler, friend, and supreme conversationalist passed away on Monday, September 23rd, 2024.
During her lifetime Grace was a daughter to her mother and father Grace and Donald (deceased), a sister to her nine brothers and sisters (all deceased …she was the youngest of the ten), a wife to her husbands Neil and Ron (both deceased), a mother to her sons Colin and Neil (along with a MIL to Jo Ellen and Jane), a grandmother to Jamison McLean, Chandler Wilson, Hunter McLean, Meghan McLean, Martha Grace McLean, and Josiah McLean, and a great grandmother to Forest Wilson.
Grace was a friend to the world, and she never met a stranger. She especially treasured her friendships in Saint John where she spent the last 20+ years of her life.
Grace loved to cook. Her spareribs were, in her own words “to DIE for”. She made a mean mince meat pie and used to make her own crust! She loved seafood, and pretty much anything put in front of her, as long as it didn’t have MSG in it!
Grace was an accomplished gardener and took great delight in growing both flowers and vegetables. She loved birds, and especially enjoyed the hummingbirds that she fed and watched through her kitchen window. She was a quilter, a Ham radio operator, loved to sing in the choir, and was an active member of St. Pius X Church.
She began her professional career relatively later in life, after being a homemaker for 15+ years. She started out as an administrative assistant and ended her career as the Treasurer of the Office and Professional Employees Union …not too bad for a girl from New Waterford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X/Holy Redeemer Parish on Friday, October 18th at 1pm. The family will be on hand from 12pm to receive mourners. Grace didn’t think a visitation was necessary, as “ I won’t be there to enjoy it!” Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).
Grace asked that you make a donation to the charity of your choice. The family would like to especially thank Claire, Karin, Kevin, and Shirley and Wayne for their extraordinary friendship to our mother, and for the care they extended to her in her final days and weeks.
