Obituary of Dorothy "Jean" White
Faith in God. This is what she would say, without hesitation, if asked what sustained her throughout her life. Jean White found immense comfort in her faith and was a lifelong member of RiverCross Church, formerly Main Street Baptist Church. She passed away last week.
Jean White was born in 1933 to parents, Ernest and Vena Powell, and grew up on Bentley Street in Saint John with her siblings, George, Donald, Marjorie and Robert - now deceased. In the 1950s she married her high school sweetheart, Joseph White. They would spend the next six decades together until Joseph died in 2014.
A generous person by nature, Jean gave abundantly. Homemade greeting cards, comfort in a storm to a frightened neighbour, a lending hand at Hope Mission. Giving was an integral part of her life.
Jean also cherished the communities to which she belonged, first on Douglas Avenue and later at Hillcrest Village where neighbours looked out for one another and were like family.
Jean is survived by her immediate family- Christine (Don) of Prince George BC, Susan (Shaun) of Saint John NB, Mark (Janet) of Middle Sackville NS, and Lynn of Yellowknife NT. Jean is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, and friends too numerous to name.
Visitation will take place 3:00 - 6:00 pm on Wednesday October 30th at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).
