I wish to express my condolences for the Flood family on the passing of Brian. I met Brian, his brothers Henry and Chris, at the Kennebecasis Rowing club in 1979. I was at that time rowing for the club. I ended up moving to the MicMac and North Star rowing clubs in Darrmouth NS and would see Brian often at regattas where we sometimes competed. Brian rowed in many boats, I remember him in the coxless pairs and single sculls mostly. I competed pretty much exclusively in the singles. Brian and I and his brother Henry would share laughs and thoughts about regattas and results in the Maritime regattas and also at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catherines ON back in the 1980s. I purchased a copy of "Saint John A Sporting Tradition" many years ago because I was very interested in it, and Brian has the grace to mention my grandfather, Ronald D. Ingraham, who was a prominent Maritime and national sculler in the 1920s and 1930s. I also appreciated seeing the accounts of Charles Ingraham Gorman, World Speedskating Champion and one of my valued ancestors. For many years after rowing I pursued my education, obtaining an engineering degree and subsequently working for NBTel and Aliant. And recently I was just reminded by a good friend that Brian was the founder of Q1 Labs, and that Brian and I also had some close business contacts as well too. I just want to say I didn't have a big role in his life but we respected each other as athletes and as profesional men in the technology field. I had always very cordial interactions with Brian and we had much in common. I am deeply saddened at his passing. I am only 60 years of age myself and I too have significant medical problems for quite a few years and i know intimately how dealing with intractible pain can crush your outlook on life in the dark times. But I remember him as a happy, tough, strong, competitive, talented athlete and for that he has my forever and utmost respect , and for how he dealt with his intractible pain journey. God bless all those that supported and loved him throughout that very difficult journey.
Sincerely,
Andrew Boyles P.Eng. (Ret'd), CATM

My sincere condolences to Brian’s family, the obituary was heartwarming. My memories of Brian come from my younger years when our families played on the shores, waters and slopes of NB (aka Polley). Our parents were dear friends, especially our mothers, who shared many memorable laughs! It warms my heart to know that Brian was such a fun, attentive partner/ parent/grandparent as that was certainly modelled by his parents throughout his childhood. I hope these many incredible memories ease the pain of your significant loss.
Sincerely, Andrea Oland

My condolences to Carolyn, Brittany, Meghan and the Flood family. I taught Brian grade 3 Catechism and he was a lovely little boy. I was heartened to know he had a loving family and a successful career. The Floods have been family friends for many years and my aunt Sr. Barbara Forestell was his mother Joan’s maid of honour and best friend. You will all be remembered in my prayers.

I feel so fortunate to have been able to have had the opportunity to know Brian having been introduced to him by my husband Sean who was a rower. Sean and I both had the pleasure of spending time with him (along with siblings Diane and Chris) when we hiked the Fundy Footpath in 2008, and Chignecto the following summer. Never have I met someone with such joy and passion for all facets of his life. He was one of the most positive, genuine people I have ever met, and always enjoyed running into him and chatting with him. My most memorable conversation took place along the rugged Fundy coastline and ironically, was about cancer and even after I explained some of the nuances that make curing the disease challenging, he felt that it really was not acceptable that there wasn't a cure and I got the sense that once we got home, he was going to get to work in solving the problem!! I admired this about him! He obviously wasn't someone who ever shied away from a challenge or a difficult problem!
He was also very kind and so easy to talk to - always interested in hearing about how I was doing, as well as the rest of my family.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his entire family for this very difficult loss. He will be greatly missed by so many people but the legacy and memories he has left behind will ensure that he will not be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Jo-Anne Attard (and Sean Moore)

Brian was such a admirable character. I remember him well as the young K-Park lifeguard, the ski racer, the rower, the author, the businessman and of course the family man. He had great focus when engaging in a converstaion with you, and was genuinely excited about your current happenings. He strived to make any interaction with others a very positive and warm one for all present. We shall all miss having super-energized "back and forth" conversations with him. My most sincere condolences to Carolyn, Brittany, Meghan, the grandchildren, and his siblings of blood, and deep friendship. What great fortune for you all to have shared life's pathway alongside Brian as a husband, a father, and a brother.

Carolyn and family, I learned of Brian’s death during a chance encounter with Diane this week. My immediate response was one of sadness, and I continue to be sad, but as we chatted I shared with Diane my deep respect and affection for Brian and recounted a few of my “Brian stories”. There was a period of time ,about a decade ago, when Brian and I chatted nearly every day. On Brian’s mind was recreating the magic that was Q1. During our calls, Brian inspired me with his references to Ron Turcotte and Secretariat and to Lord Beaverbrook. His favourite refrain at the time was “never give up the lead”. While he was referencing UNB’s cybersecurity prowess, he often recounted his and Henry’s rowing philosophy. It was these conversations that led to the Unicorn in the Woods project, an homage to Brian, I, like so many people, feel so fortunate to have had Brian in my life. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

It saddened me greatly to hear of Brian’s passing this morning. As a neighbor to the Flood’s in K-Park I got to know Brian, Henry and Chris quite well. Apart from being a world class rower with Henry, Brian was also the lifeguard and swimming instructor at the K-Park beach who taught a generation of kids how to swim. Brian took his role as lifeguard very seriously and often had to ban me and my friends from the beach for the day due to our shenanigans.
It was impossible not to admire Brian and the Flood family. Apart from being world class athletes, they were kind and fun and just generally great to be around. My heart goes out to the entire Flood family, Brian was a good man who was admired by many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rest in peace Brian and here’s to your remarkable life as a role model for us all.
