Being around Mary you felt welcome, included and often drawn into or 'volunteered' to participate in some project. Despite the urgency and sometimes hectic nature of the activity you recognised in Mary a sense of peace. I am grateful for her generosity, counsel and occasional rebuke. Mary's life was a testimony to her walk with the Lord and an encouragement to those who knew her grow deeper in their faith and love for God.
The Lord be with you all and comfort you with His presence.

You have all been in my thoughts and prayers over the past many days as you face the passing of your wonderful mother , Mary.
I have many delightful memories of special moments spent with Mary over the last couple of years and will always treasure them. Her sense of humor and wit always bring a smile . Mary was indeed a special lady. God Bless each of you in the days ahead.

To the Robinsons:
I thank God for Mary and trust her now to our Saviour. I got to know her when I was chairman of Barnabas Ministries back in the day. I was staying at the house in Halifax once and Mary was a wonderful hostess and, more impressively, unperturbed when her teenage sons went out surfing at night in cold weather! Wow! We will not be able to attend on Sunday but our prayers will be with you. Perhaps in the summer at Wickham.

The Robinson family,
Your parent’s embraced us in the late 70’s when we came to live in Canada and became christians. First myself then Brian a year later. Your father nourished our faith by his sermons and he and precious Mary worked as a team to nurture us in all other aspects of our life. Tom encouraged Brian to join and help with “Kid’s Club” and dearest Mary helped me to grow in prayer through the conferences she organized , she believed in me and was an inspiration to me as a christian. Mary was elegant, a child of God, her faith in Him touched the lives of all who met her including Brian and I. May your memories of her be a comfort at this difficult time as you mournbringing peace knowing she is at rest with her heavenly Father.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary were my God parents, and as often as not I was part of their family when at HPF, where thanks to Gran we had Cottages, with oil lamps, no running water, and out houses, we rode horses and were read too, Puzzled and Lego played, and often played Indians and rescued the golden goddess! we had a festival of the arts, and often preformed at the homes on the hill, Godspell, Josephs coat of many colours, etc. i spent part of a summer with them all, and Robin, another God child. one evening we went for ice cream and weirdly ended up in northern Quebec, they are a driving family! We also slept in the station wagon hoping to wake in Waupoos, on the third morning Triumph! When my youngest sister passed the weekend of her first week of grade 9, the whole family turned around and drove back, so we all met at the farm to lay her to rest! One summer I and Robin (another Godchild!) spent time with them in St Foy Quebec, one evening we went out for ice cream and strangely ended up in northern Quebec, they are a driving family! We slept in the station wagon for three nights and woke up the third morning at the farm! We Michael, myself, Jackson and Gillian went east one Summer to visit and eat lobster, it was lovely to see them all and know how Wickham cradled their family, esp Tom and Mary! we spent time with Rachel and John R and their 4 kids with the two vans we were a convoy and the kids divided by whom they wanted to sit with! I miss my Parents and Gran farm a lot but am lucky to often dream of them, it makes me very happy every time i am blessed this way! So to Kathleen I remember you told me, your Mum said “i don’t know who you are, but i trust and feel safe with you, it was why she agreed to marry your Dad,what more could you ask! Chip and Fiona, Rachel and John R. Johnathon, ( thanks for letting me love your dogs up!) we got some catching up to do! I hope you see your parents in your dreams, write the messages down I often find it helpful! I am sending you all big hugs!!!

What a beautifully written testimony of Mary's life. I always felt a touch of royalty when Mary was around. God be near all this glorious family she raised, as you grieve her absence. Love Joanna (Fiona's sister, Chip's sister-in-law)

So many memories, I can't begin... But One thing I just loved about Mary was how her eyes lit up and how she would just laugh spontaneously at things. I have almost not seen her for decades... But this stays with me. She had a certain mischief and spontaneity, and I loved that. It made her more real to me than many adults around me as a small child. During that intimate time in Quebec, I remember her managing to have myself and usually one or two other of my siblings to Sunday lunch at the big round table in the Quebec City kitchen, squeezing two more kids among the seven places already set, and what a noise and hairy-ness that was! But, Mary would welcome us and treat us just like her own--eking out supplies, including corrections and encouragement. She had such a good improvisational style, dealing with all of us. Thank you Mary, for your creativity, for showing yourself in kindness and joy among the hubbub, for being a part of all of us Slingerlands' childhood in such a generous way. One other thing I will always remember is Mary's elegance which she just wore so easily, it was like a simple kindness to the world. My heart expands to a larger vastness and surrounds all of you who are more directly grieving her passing. And great gratitude goes to all of you, and especially Kate, for all the care you gave your mother in the last years: a beautiful service to her and to the world, to show your value of her life, and surround her with so much love. You are certainly surrounded with love as you feel her go and for the coming years. xoxo

Dear Kate, Rachel, Chip, Peter & Jonathan (and families), Thoughts and prayers are with you. Many wonderful memories come to mind. Your Mother was a gracious lady whose life shone forth the love of Christ to those who knew her and to the many, many people from all walks of life to whom both your Dad & Mom ministered. Only God knows the number of lives that were touched through their ministry and their warm hospitality. I will be forever grateful for their love, fellowship and friendship. Mary's life was a life well-lived and I counted it a privilege to call her my friend and sister in Christ. May wonderful memories comfort you and all the family in the days ahead. Such a lovely photo of your beautiful Mother who is now "absent from the body and present with the Lord".

A woman of grace, faith and love, it was a privilege to be hosted in her home when I served as youth group leader in the early 1970's and later work with her as a board member in the Essentials movement and its successors. Knowing Mary has been a delight and an inspiration.
