Eva loved life, and she loved people. She always welcomed us with open arms and a loving smile before putting the kettle on for a "cuppa". We loved her stories about the war years and her adjustments to life in her new country. Eva was so proud of her children and grandchildren; she was always interested in ours as well. We loved her laugh, her sharp wit and her upbeat, cheerful outlook on life. She will never be forgotten.

We'll always remember Eva and our visits with her and Girvan. She greeted us with open arms and sincere joy. Then the kettle would go on so we could all have a "cuppa". We loved her stories about her home in England, and her adjustment to life in a new country. She was so proud of her family, and she was always interested in ours. Eva was a special person, and she'll remain a part of us.

Aunt Eva was really a joy. Our grandmother was Iris, Eva's older sister. They were both war brides -- Aunt Eva to New Brunswick, our Nan to New Hampshire. They looked alike, had the same hand and facial mannerisms, drank tea the same way. It was so much fun watching them together. One visit in the 80s, Aunt Eva brought me a book of "Newfie Jokes," over which we cackled for hours (probably considered impolite today). She helped me memorize the kings & queens of England and told fascinating stories about Birmingham during the war. I admired them -- they had been through hard times and misery, but they dusted themselves off and braved the ocean to start news lives in peace and prosperity in North America, and deserved all the happiness they found there. God bless her.
Photos: 1979, when Great-Nan came to visit. The first is our grandmother Iris, their mother Great-Nan Grafton, their sister Aunt Betty, and Aunt Eva. I believe this is in New Brunswick. The second is on the same trip: our Nan, Great-Nan, and Aunt Eva, in my grandparents' back yard.
