Obituary of Marlene Joy Cummings
Cummings: Marlene Joy
It is with broken hearts and in appreciation of a life worthwhile that the family announce Marlene’s untimely passing on Sunday, March 13th, 2022. Born in Saint John, N.B., Marlene was the beloved daughter of her adoptive parents the late Kathleen and Gordon Cummings.
Marlene is survived by her best friend and brother-in-law, David Lockhart, her niece Carolyn, and her siblings Kathleen, Sharon, Debbie, Michael, Charlene, Thomas, Katherine, and David. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and numerous friends, especially from her teaching community.
Besides her parents, the late Joy and Robert Lloyd, Marlene was predeceased by her siblings Esther, Gordon “Red”, Beverley, Ruth, Gordon William, John Robert, and Keith.
Marlene’s chosen passion in life was the betterment of the young lives she taught, and the well being of teachers. Eventually retiring from Loch Lomond School. Throughout her career, Marlene devoted her spare time to the N.B.T.A. Branch 20 (Saint John) and the broader provincial body. For many years she served in various positions within Branch 20, including President, and volunteered on a number of committees. In her retirement, Marlene continued her involvement in education by assisting with the placement of students in District Co-op. Her care and concern for others shone through in her every action.
Marlene was quick to laugh, quick in wit, and always made you feel you were the most important person to her. She was definitely gifted in the “friend department.” In earlier years Marlene loved her Tequila Sunrise Parties, many adventures with the Rat Pack, and most recently monthly dinners with “The Rats” until her health curtailed these events.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home (634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, on Saturday, March 26th, 2022, at 11am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Marlene’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.BrenansFH.com.
