Obituary of Joseph Baxter
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joseph Addington Baxter, on April 23rd, 2022, at the Loch Lomond Village. Joe was born on February 22nd, 1934, the eldest son of Vera (nee Tippett) and Addington Baxter. He grew up on the west side of Saint John (Fairville) with younger siblings Paul, Gerry, and Carol. Joe was always on the move with an outgoing personality and interest in all sports, hockey, soccer, baseball, golf, and duck hunting. He went to Saint John High School, then off to UNB Fredericton to study Civil Engineering. In his teen years Joe belonged to the youth group at the Church of The Good Shepherd where he met the love of his life, Nancy Reevey. That was the beginning of more than 60 wonderful years together, culminating in marriage and three beautiful children, Joanne, Jill, and Jeffrey. Joe resided with his family in Kennebecasis Park where they had a wonderful group of friends and neighbours. He played in the local mixed bridge group and spent many evenings curling at Riverside Golf and Country Club. Joe was often the life of the party with a funny joke, and a large warm smile – along with a few good dance moves!
Joe and Nancy loved to camp, which took them to P.E.I. every summer in the early years and in the latter, annual trips to Clearwater Beach, Florida. One of the most special places in his heart was the cottage in New River Beach, where he got to use his handy carpentry skills in building “The Great Room” addition. Together with Nancy, they entertained many friends and family there over the years!
Joe was a true gentleman who would be the first one to lend a hand to help anyone. He had so many qualities that we will miss and cherish. We will miss this wonderful father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend. Cheers to Joe for a life well lived. He will now be together with Nancy forever.
Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Nancy (nee Reevey), mother Vera, father Addington, and brother Gerald Baxter. He leaves behind his sister Carol Moore, brother Paul Baxter, sister-in-law Lois Baxter; children Joanne Bizeau (Dan), Jill Howarth (Arthur), Jeffrey Baxter (Dr. Charlene McDonough); grandchildren Kristan Northrup, Gregory Northrup, Emily Jewers, and Hannah Jewers. He will be missed by several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
We wish to thank the staff of Loch Lomond Village for the care they provided.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home (634-7424), 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, on Friday, May 6th, 2022, from 12pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 1pm.
