Interment
Obituary of Norma Evelyn McLaughlin
It is with great sadness that the family of Norma Evelyn (Gordon) McLaughlin announce her peaceful passing at home on December 13th, 2022, age 91. Norma was born June 12,1931 in Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia to the late Norman and Marion Gordon.
Upon graduation from the Yarmouth School of Nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse, she had the desire to travel and work in Halifax, NS; Massachusetts, USA; and Niagara Falls, Ontario. Norma returned to Yarmouth to work and she met Gale McLaughlin, through her nursing classmate, Sarah (Morton) Foster, who was his first cousin. She married Gale and started a new adventure on Grand Manan Island in 1963. Always practical and resourceful, Norma could build, fix, bake and cook anything in her own reserved manner and put others before herself. Norma enjoyed woodworking, making crafts, gardening up to this past summer, and loved reading. Norma/Nanny loved spending time with her family. Norma attended the Seal Cove Baptist Church and in later years worshipped God privately.
Norma is survived by sons Brian (Cathy) and Shayne (Anna-Marie); grandchildren Nicolas, Daniel, Dorothy and Sarah; and great-grandchildren Mya and Zoey. She is also survived by siblings Christine, George, Elizabeth, Muriel and Marguerite. Norma is predeceased by her parents, husband Gale, brothers John & Malcolm, and sister Barbara. Also predeceased by her lifelong friend, Margrett Cook; her love and generosity was never forgotten. The family would like to thank Elaine, Cathy, Brenda and Carmen for the kindness shown to Norma in her later years when her world became smaller.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). To honour Norma’s request there will be no funeral home visitation or service. Interment will take place in Hillside Cemetery, Grand Manan with a family service at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Grand Manan Hospital Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice. WWW.BrenansFH.com
