Obituary of Verna Evelyn Urquhart
It is with great sadness that the family of Verna Evelyn (Earle) Urquhart, loving wife of the late C. Ranald Urquhart, announce her peaceful passing on Friday, November 10, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Saint John, NB at the age of 95. Verna was the first born to the late George and Dorothy (Whitenect) Earle on August 17, 1928 at Kingston, NB.
In 1945, Verna graduated from the old Hampton High School, married in 1947 and shortly thereafter moved to Saint John, NB. Both Mum and Dad were very active members of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Mum was employed at G.E. Barbour Co. for 24 years and Fernhill Cemetery Co. for 16 years before retiring to her second love Genealogy having published numerous family books such as the Urquhart’s, Earle’s and Reicker’s.
Verna is survived by her son, Dale Urquhart (Leah) of Erbs Cove; her grandchildren: Andrew Urquhart (Laurie) of Moncton, Jacinda Wilband (Colin) of Kingston, Angela Guptill (Matthew) of Hampton, Justin Urquhart (Emily) of Hampton; her great-grandchildren: Collette, Jackson, Payton and Morgan Urquhart, Emery and Blake Wilband, Megan, Owen, Ethan, Ayda and Macey Guptill and Thiem, Maeve and Calan Urquhart.
Verna is also surived by her sisters: Muriel Fowler, Phyllis Johnston and Norma Erb; brother, Darrel Earle (Doreen); sisters-in-law Alice Urquhart and Ella Earle and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother Donald Earle, brothers-in-law: Hazen Fowler, Terence Johnston, Weldon Erb and Charles Forestell.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the 6th floor staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital especially Dr. Rogers for their loving and compassionate care.
The funeral took place on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Brenan’s Chapel followed by burial at Erb’s Cove Baptist Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506) 634-7424.
