Obituary of Peter Louis Holmes
Peter Louis Holmes
May 11, 1950 – November 27, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Peter Holmes announce his passing on November 27, 2023, after a challenging battle with Lewy Body Dementia. A proud North Ender, Peter was pre-deceased by his parents, Donald and Frances (Dever) Holmes, his brother and sister-in-law, Donnie and Bonnie Holmes, his sister, Kathleen O’Conner, and his great-nephew, Justin Holmes, all of Saint John.
Peter is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah (nee Crossman) and his two daughters, Cynthia Phillips (Richard) and Cheri Armstrong, all of Saint John. He also leaves behind his wonderful brother and sister- in-law, Alfred and Betty Holmes, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Peter spent his career working at Labatt’s Brewery in Saint John, and was an active and skilled negotiator with his local union brotherhood. He was a voracious reader and avid dog-lover, with many trusted canine companions over the years. He’ll be remembered for his sense of humour, fierce honesty, and boisterous laugh.
The family would like to thank the outstanding staff on the CAM unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care during the final weeks of Peter’s life.
As per his wishes, a single visitation will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 6-8 pm, where casual attire and riotous stories are encouraged. Toasts to his life (in true Holmes tradition) will follow at Lily’s Restaurant in Rockwood Park’s Lily Lake Pavilion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory can be made to the Saint John SPCA.
