Obituary of Trevor Noel Morris
It is with immeasurable sadness to announce the sudden passing of Trevor Noel Morris. On January 23, 2024, Trevor left this world still clutching a racket and doing what he loved, playing sports surrounded by his longtime friends.
Born in Saint John on January 4th, 1951, he was the son of the late Charles and May Morris. He grew up in the North End and was a vigorous and talented athlete from a young age. Trevor was a legend in many sports including soccer, cross country, track and field, and rugby. Many people would say that he could effortlessly master any sport. As evidenced in 1969 by bringing home three Provincial Championships in soccer, track and field and cross country. Trevor continued to dominate athletics in university. His rugby team became the UNB Fredericton University Rugby Champions and the Caledonia men’s rugby champions in 1973-74. In soccer, as captain, Trevor lead the UNBSJ soccer team to a conference championship while being named MVP. A distinguished athletic career with numerous accomplishments, Trevor won athlete of the year in 1969 at Saint John High School and again in 1971 at UNBSJ.
In 1974, he turned his passion for athletics into a career by graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. Trevor returned to his alma mater and dedicated over 30 years to teaching and coaching at Princess Elizabeth School, where he retired in 2006.
Trevor was a revered and dedicated teacher, coach, and mentor. Throughout his career he won numerous city and district titles. In 1989-90, he was honored by the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (CAHPER) for his Quality Physical Education program at Princess Elizabeth School. Trevor inspired so many young athletes in Saint John, in fact it is hard to find someone in this city who didn’t know him. Just ask his children how long it took them to make a “quick” trip to the grocery store.
With so much playing experience and knowledge of sports, he put his skills to more use by becoming a soccer and volleyball official until the fall of 2023.
He is survived by his loving of wife and high school sweetheart of 48 years, Marie Morris (Corbin), his children Lindsay Hall (Doug) of Hampton, NB, Craig Morris (Elaine Davies) of Halifax, NS and Josh Morris (Amy Robichaud) of Saint John, NB, brother Brian Morris of Saint John, NB, 5 beautiful grandchildren, Sam and Julia Hall, Lousie and Beatrice Morris and Jack Watson, his extended family including Marie’s sibling Jane Allen (Doug), Paul Corbin, Mary Ellen Corbin (Steve Galianos), Libby O’Hara, Ron Corbin (April), Rick Corbin (Barb), 8 nieces and nephews and his cherished Bernese Mountain Dog and his best friend Zoey. He was predeceased by his parents, his favourite uncle Herbie Jones, his in-laws Theresa and Ron Corbin, sister-in-law Joyce Morris, and brother-in-law Paul O’Hara.
Trevor lived life to the fullest every day. Up until the day he died, could be found skiing at Poley Mountain, biking in Rockwood Park, cheering on his grandchildren at sporting events, and roaming the aisles at Value Village. He did so continually surround by lifelong friends and family. He relished every single moment being a father and then a Grampy.
A rich life taken from our world too soon and far too suddenly. His legend will live on with his children, grandchildren and every single athlete who learned to volley, kick, or shoot a free throw from Mr. Morris.
The family would like to thank every first responder, physician and nurse who attended to Trevor and continue to dedicate their careers to the health and safety of our community.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). A drop-in Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00pm – 5:00pm on Sunday, January 28th at Millidgeville North School, 500 Woodward Ave, Saint John, NB (District office entrance).
In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund in Trevor’s name is being created through the Saint John High School Centennial Fund, or donations can be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation - Breast Health Trust Fund or the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation – New Brunswick Heart Centre.
