Obituary of Sylvia Margaret Davidson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Margaret Davidson (Ross) of Rothesay, NB on March 19th, 2024. Born July 1st, 1926 in Sherbrook, QC to Carrie Ross (Mackay) and Alexander Ross.
Sylvia worked as a lab technician in Los Angeles, Montreal, and then Saint John where she met the love of her life, Bill. They raised their family in Kennebecasis Park then Riverview, NB. After the three boys were grown, they moved to Grand Falls, NL and then Truro, Nova Scotia with Bill’s Career before returning to Rothesay in 1990.
One of mom’s favorite activities was playing bridge. She was a member of bridge clubs wherever she lived. She made lifelong friends in all of the clubs she was in. Sylvia especially enjoyed her weekend excursions around the Maritimes with the three Betty’s from Riverview. The four of them would enjoy the sights on all of their trips while also playing countless hours of bridge. This was always one of her favorite traditions.
Sylvia had great interest and talent in restoring and refinishing antique furniture and showed her pieces with pride at many shows across the Maritime provinces until she was well into her 70’s.
She enjoyed traveling, having visited many destinations around the globe. One of her favorite destinations though, was skiing in Maine, Vermont or Quebec on the March breaks with her sons each year and making lifelong memories.
A devoted Christian, Sylvia was a lifelong member of St. John Stone Church, where many long-lasting friendships were made. She participated in all aspects of church life with her Stone Church family, whether it be driving friends to church, preparing church suppers, working on administrative matters to gathering flowers for their Sunday services. She loved to decorate the church on special occasions.
Predeceased by her husband Bill, sister Dorothy and niece Rosalyn, Sylvia is survived by her three sons, Ross (Sheree), Robert (Holly) and Peter (Heather), grandchildren, Scott, Sarah, Rachel (Rob), Katie, Shannon, Abigail (Henry) and Jake. Great grandchildren, Jack, Mason, Sophia and Elizabeth.
In keeping with Sylvia’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home and her funeral will take place April 16th, 2024, at 11:00 Am at St. John Stone Church Sanctuary. Reception to follow.
The family would like to thank the staff of Parkland in the Valley, Quispamsis for their kindness, caring and service. Sylvia thoroughly enjoyed the community at Shannex for seven years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice. www.brenansfh.com
